Alparslan discovered his family had been kidnapped by Suleiman and at once went to the palace. Suleiman denied Alparslan entrance to Tughrul’s burial and quickly banished him to the wall. Alparslan found out about the events from Atsiz. The vizier said that Alparslan be executed in the courtyard immediately, but Aybars objected to the kidnapping.

Aybars insisted that Alparslan be expelled. The vizier asked Leon to kill Seferiye. After Alparslan exited the palace, the bandits attacked him. Sulaiman went to Vaspurakan to try to lure the Lord, believing that Alparslan would be killed by officers on his journey. Alparslan killed the thieves but was later rescued by his family. Leon fought against the Turkish forces but was unrewarded. Alparslan sneaked into Vaspurakan and waited for his men to open the gate of the city. Leon snuck away from the Turks and nabbed Alparslan in the city.
